Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel In Puerto Ayora
After enjoying an incredible 5 day cruise aboard Metropolitan Touring’s Expedition Ship – ⛴ Santa Cruz II, we had the distinct pleasure of staying at the beautiful 🏖 Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel.
A luxurious oceanfront resort situated on the 🏝 Island of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos archipelago.
Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel – Location
This oceanfront resort hotel is located on the south side of Santa Cruz Island, which is the most inhabited and has the largest townsite in the Galapagos Islands.
The town is known as Puerto Ayora and is a very popular tourist destination, especially for those visitors exploring the neighboring islands in the Galapagos National Park.
The 🐢 Darwin Research Station is also located in Puerto Ayora.
The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel is ideally located at Punta Estrada, a 5-minute water taxi ride across the bay from Puerto Ayora, on the southern side of central Santa Cruz Island.
It occupies a prime position right next to the only public beach in Puerto Ayora.
The hotel is very easy to get to, from the public dock in town. You take a quick ride on the hotel’s water taxi to the dock area for the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel. From there, it’s about a 5 minute easy walk to the hotel.
About The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel
The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel is owned by Metropolitan Touring. This well established and world renowned travel company began operating excursions to the Galapagos Islands back in the 1950’s.
Since then, the company and with its original founder Eduardo Proano Paz y Mino, now own and operate three expedition ships in the Galapagos (Yacht Isabela II, Yacht La Pinta and the Santa Cruz II).
Be sure to check out my post and photos here on our amazing 🛳 Galapagos Islands Expedition Cruise aboard the Santa Cruz II.
Its two other luxury hotels in Ecuador and which my wife and I had the pleasure of staying at as well include; The Historic Casa Gangotena Hotel in the City of Quito, located in Old Town and the award winning Mashpi Lodge in the Andean cloud forest.
Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel – Guest Rooms
Having the distinction of being the only property in the Galapagos Islands as part of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World portfolio, this luxury hotel has just 27 rooms and suites.
There are 6 suites, which offer direct ocean views and private balconies with hammocks. The remaining 21 guest rooms come complete with shared porches or second level balconies, and with private hammocks.
Our guest room included a very comfortable king bed, full bath with shower, desk and chair, air conditioning, black out pull down curtains for nighttime and fresh drinking water.
All guest rooms are smoke free and have private baths with showers, hair dryers and other amenities including; biodegradable soap and shampoo.
Our room was very clean throughout, simple in detail and included porch chairs and a hammock outside.
Hotel Amenities
All Finch Bay guests have access to the main pool and terrace, complete with lounge chairs with umbrellas, fresh pool towels and outdoor dining tables to enjoy lunch and/or dinner outside.
The main bar with sit down stools is also located alongside the pool area, which was perfect for enjoying a meal and/or a cocktail outside.
Enjoying lunch at poolside.
There is also a comfortable lounge area and dining room located inside the main building, just off the reception area.
For those who wish to catch up on the news or watch some television during their stay, there is a small tv lounge area as well, located in this part of the hotel.
Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel – Dining
Your stay includes a full buffet breakfast served each morning in the main dining room. There’s a wide selection of items to choose from, including an egg station where staff will prepare eggs to your liking.
We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel and which is considered the top rated restaurant in this part of the Galapagos, for fine dining.
Andrés Orlando, Finch Bay’s Executive Chef states that …
“The success of our cuisine is based on the constant search for new flavors that reflect the Galapagos Islands’ authenticity.”
The dining in the restaurant and the hotel restaurant staff serving guests was exceptional.
Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel – SPA
One other main attraction to this hotel is their private 🪔 SPA.
Just a short walk along the properties boardwalk, you will arrive at the hotel’s 🪔 SPA.
This private and intimate spot is a fully-equipped center for complete; relaxation, healthful care and self-healing.
“We incorporate local mineral- and plant-based elements that enhance each of the treatments we offer, giving your body the chance to prepare for your Galapagos excursions or relax and connect with the essence and energy of the archipelago.”
The SPA center includes; a gym, yoga deck and 2 outdoor hot tubs for its SPA guests.
We enjoyed a relaxing 2 night stay at this beautiful oceanfront resort, after our incredible expedition cruise.
Playa Los Alemanes beach, which is located just steps off the main pool area, was great for an afternoon swim each day.
You are within minutes of the town center via the hotel’s taxi boat, where you will find numerous shops, restaurants, attractions and the renowned Darwin Research Station to explore.
